The Santa Fe Indian Pole Vaulters (aka The Flying Indians) competed at the Region 3 Track and Field Championships over the weekend at Challenger-Columbia Stadium in CCISD – and, after 4 straight years of District and Area championships and medalists, finished in the points and just short of qualifying for the State Championships in Austin.
Caitlyn Garza finished 4th in Region 3 and Jay Mann finished in a tie for 5th place. Also representing the Indians were Clay Horn and, the lone underclassman of the bunch, Lexy Greenlaw.
However, even with the graduation of Mann, Horn, and Garza, the future remains bright for Coach Billy Miller’s pole vaulters. Several weeks ago, Freshman Seth Jacobs won the JV District Championship. Junior Trent Clarke and Junior Madison Mann were area qualifiers. Freshman Hannah Hershey medaled at several meets this year. And, at the junior high, the Indians brought home the 7th grade boys, 8th grade boys, and 7th grade girls District Championships.
Congratulations to the Pole Vaulters and to the Indian Track and Field Program as a whole.
